Welcome to Our Blog!

Our classroom blog was created as a place where we can meet online together to reflect on and explore ideas, share opinions, discuss various topics and also create! I am so excited to be a part of all the learning that is going to go on here and I hope you are, too! Now, what about the name of our blog? The Read Wheelbarrow was chosen as a "play on words" and refers to a very interesting poem (I think) by William Carlos Williams called The Red Wheelbarrow. It is the first of many, many poems we will read and discuss. With it our blogging adventure begins...so, happy blogging everyone!

Cats Playing Patty-cake, what they were saying...

Gemma's blog has some great things to check out...you must look for the baby hummingbird! But here is one of the videos she found and it goes with a very old poem you might know:

Here is the old and traditional rhyme that goes with this video! :)
The earliest recorded version of the rhyme appears in a play from 1698!!!
(How many years AFTER Medieval Times was that...? Anyone?)

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Pat it and prick it and mark it with B,
Put it in the oven for baby and me.
Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it up, roll it up;
And throw it in a pan!
Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.
Maybe you could post a "nursery rhyme" that you know....is it poetry?

  1. I think the vieo is very cute because I have never seen cats play patty cake before. I wonder if the cats learned it by themselves or trained to do all that? My nursery rhyme is:

    a b c d e f g
    gummy bears are playing with me
    one is red and one is blue
    one is playing with the rest
    now I'm running for rice
    because the red on can really bite.

    I really want to see dogs playing slide or cats and dogs playing on the computer!

  2. Hi Phillip!
    Well, good for you writing in to our blog from home! This shows a lot of initiative! I'll see if I can find your request about cats and dogs...meanwhile, I hope your classmates will follow your example and write such a great comment!

  3. I really think that the video and the cats are cute and cool. I don't think that the cats are actually talking I think that the people are talking behind their backs and doing the actions and I do have a nursery ryhme. My nursery ryhme is:

    Bye baby bunting
    Daddy's gone a-hunting
    To get a little rabbit skin
    To wrap my baby bunting in.

  4. Hehehe I like this video and poem because in the video I like it how they mess up and because the cats in the video are cute. For the poem I liked it because in the poem it is the same song that is in the video and because in the video I like how that they fight in the video and it is funny how the cats hit each other and start all over again.

  5. Great comments, boys! I love that you are checking our blog independently from home...and, by the way (just saying), your writing is getting much better, no editing required on my part! Excellent work!! But no one has taken up my challenge and answered the Medieval Times question...come on, you are all good at math! Give it a go...
    And I like your nursery rhyme, Nedim, even if I feel a little sorry for the poor rabbit that gets skinned! But that is what happened before Walmart and Gap, you had to make your own coat from what you were able to hunt.

  11. this video was so funny :) My favorite part was when the cat scarcted the other cat and the other cat slaped his friend. I will give the medieval question a try. My answer is 198 years.

  12. Hi Ms.Kutertan! I am so happy to write on the blog, after a long time!I realy liked the poem.It sounded like one of the Cats starving, and asking for some cake.If, I was the Bakers Man, I would bang my Pan on the Cats head, and run away.Because,who would give a TALKING CAT what they want.Well, I know I wouldn't, I certainley wouldn't, instead, I would only almost faint!But, the most funniest thing, was the VIDEO!!!It was awsome. The cat shouted! Ms.Kutertan, I forgot my Password on Bitstrips, so I gave a request to you. Bye, and have a great time!!

  13. I really liked that video it was awesome . I think humans were in the background. It was so cute .I like this video it was better than the sound scape video. I think the owners of the cats trained the cats to do patty cake. I never knew patty cake was a really old nursery rhyme.

  16. This poem is just saying the words to the nursery rhyme, so out of all the poems so far I would have to give this one a 'no' but the reason too, is that it's actually not a poem it's just the words of the nursery rhyme so that's why i give this nursery rhyme a thumbs down.
